  • The South Carolina Cooperative Council was organized in 1953 and chartered as a non-profit educational organization in 1964.

  • There are eight district directors representing cooperatives within the state of South Carolina, four at-large directors and four advisory members who represent 4-H, FFA, Clemson University and USDA.

  • The Council sponsors a Cooperative Education Conference for Young Couples where information about cooperative principles and practices is facilitated by cooperative leaders. The program is designed to give young couples an understanding of how cooperatives operate. One couple is selected by the participating couples each year as the Outstanding Couple. They are recognized at the Council's annual meeting and are sponsored by the Council to serve as a host couple at the upcoming conference.

  • At least one youth is selected to attend the National Institute of Cooperative Education, held on a college campus. The 2008 conference is scheduled for July 27-30 at UNC-Asheville, NC.

  • During Cooperative Month (October) the Council sponsors a Cooperative Awareness Seminar for agricultural educators.

  • The Council sponsors the FFA Star Farmer Award and provides a $1,200 scholarship to the recipient and his or her advisor to attend the National FFA Conference.

  • The Council provides a $1,000 college scholarship to one of four 4-H students receiving Presidential Trays for outstanding contributions to the 4-H program.

  • Each year at the Council's annual meeting, Distinguished Cooperator of the Year Awards are presented.
